I was yesterday at Laval for Laval Virtual, the 12th edition of this event dedicated to the European virtual and augmented reality.
A brief outline :
- less immersive helmets than in 2009
- a focus on apps dedicated to museums (for example : Personal Space Tech BV from NL that showed a digitized artifact in 3D and allows the visitor to actually control it – see picture and the interactive visit of the Douanier Rousseau museum made by a Laval startup Enozone).

- tactile display screens (table, smartphone).
The area of the fair devoted to the students (Virtual Fantaisy) was interesting and creative too : for example « Le Petit Chaperon Rouge » showed in AR by l’Ecole Poytechnique de Montreal… as well as the « Dummy’s Dream » by ESCIN and ESIEA (combination of virtual universe in stereoscopic relief and a real computerized puppet).
The IVRC award had been given to Immersive Rail Shooter, a concept of video game on AR by David Arenou of Ecole du Design de Nantes Atlantique. Congrats !
The award Virtual Fantaisy (limited time : 30 hours to lead a project) had been given to Ecole Polytechnique de Montreal. Congrats too !
- Last but not least : some fun demos too such as bubble click from Sony (see picture below) and many more that the large audience will have the pleasure to test during the week-end.
Thanks to this audience, Laval Virtual will be a hugue Augmented and Virtual Reality Lab for all the demos.
